Desmond Kwoffie, an unemployed man, was granted bail of GH: 10,000 with two sureties by the Enchi District Magistrate court for allegedly harming two people at Enchi in the Aowin Municipality.
Kwoffe, who is 19 years old, entered a not guilty plea to the crime, but because he did not appear in court as required by the bail requirements, the court presided by Mr. Lawrence Buanor-Buer was forced to remand him into police custody.
It is anticipated that the accused will return to court on Monday, November 20, 2023.
Detective Inspector Joseph Kwadwo Agyare, the prosecutor, stated that the complainants were James Bawa, a farmer, and Joseph Yaw, a mechanic, who lived in the Aowin Municipality at Ellubullu junction and Nankaba. At the same time, Kwoffie was a resident of Kokoase.
He said that following a programme on September 17, 2023, at around 2300 hours, the friends who made the complaints went to the La Twins Inn drinking spot in Enchi.
According to Chief Inspector Agyare, Joseph informed the accused that he had no knowledge when the accused asked the complainants if they knew one of Azaa’s houses when they were in the bar.
The prosecution said that the accused grew enraged without being provoked, reached for a shattered bottle, and grabbed Joseph’s clothing. However, James moved fast to stop it, and in the process, he hurt his right index finger and left elbow.
Unsatisfied, Kwoffie struck Joseph once more, cutting him on the neck with the shattered bottle. They both reported the incident to the Enchi police station.
The prosecution stated that after receiving treatment at the Enchi Government Hospital, the complainants were given police medical report forms, which they subsequently submitted with the necessary endorsement from a medical official at the hospital.
In his caution statement, Detective Inspector Agyare stated that Kwoffie had acknowledged the offence, been prosecuted, and was being taken before the court.
