The Western Regional branch of the National Identification Authority (NIA) says they are currently facing some financial challenges which are delaying the printing of new Ghana cards.

Speaking exclusively to Skyy News, the Western Regional Director of the NIA, Mr Enoch Ben Sackey said one of the challenges of the NIA is the lack of funds, according to him, they lack the financial capacity to settle some of their debts in order to acquire materials needed to print more Ghana cards.

He said, “We lack financial capacity, as I speak we have about 3.5 blank cards in our abandoned warehouse and it is as a result of lack of payment, if we are able to pay our debts, we will be able to acquire these materials and print all awaiting cards within 3 days.”

He noted they are still working and issuing Ghana cards but are currently having some 49,011 cards sitting on their table and are waiting for Ghanaians to come and pick them up.

He added that they are currently working on getting some 29,000 cards printed.

He said, “In the Western Region we have registered 1,248,728 people and have printed 1,216,018 cards, 1,167,007 cards have been issued out and 49,011 cards still waiting to be picked up. We have registered 27,435 but have not printed them.”
