Former First Lady Theresa Kufour dead

According to reports, Mrs. Theresa Kufuor, a former first lady of Ghana’s Fourth Republic, has passed away. Reliable sources inside her family and the presidency verified her passing to the media.

According to the reports, she passed away about 1600.

She was married to John Agyekum Kufuor, the second President of the Fourth Republic, and they had five children together.

Many people saw Mrs. Kufuor as a modest, elegant lady who was a steadfast supporter of her husband’s successful political career and administration from 2001 to 2008.

She established the Mother and Child Community Development Foundation (MCCDF), and the Catholic Church honoured her with the Dame of St. Gregory the Great Award for her dedication to alleviating the situation of low-income women and their children.

Following their meeting at a Republic Day Anniversary Dance in London in 1961, Mrs. Kufuor and the Former President were married in 1962 when he was only 23.

She was a devoted Catholic who was born on October 25th, 1935.

After completing her studies at the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford and Paddington General Hospital in London, Mrs. Kufuor spent most of her professional life in the UK. She then became a State Certified Midwife with a Certificate in Premature Nursing.

She was the last child of her parents and went by the name Theresa Mensah until she wed President Kufour.

J.H. Mensah, a former stalwart of the NPP, was her older brother.

The Volta Region’s Catholic Convent in Keta is where Mrs. Kufuor began her formal schooling.

In order to achieve the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) project, she campaigned for policy changes in the government’s white paper on educational reforms in 2007.
