Gender Minister begins nationwide School Feeding monitoring tour from Sekondi-Takoradi – Skyy Power FM

The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection Madam Lariba Zuweira Abudu has begun a nationwide monitoring in relation to one of Ghana’s government’s flagship initiatives, the School Feeding Program.

Madam Zuweira Abudu started her tour in the Western Region, particularly the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis and the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality.

Speaking on Skyy Power FM’s Jolly Breakfast Show today, she said the purpose of the monitoring is to acquaint herself with issues concerning the school feeding program and the ministry as a whole.

She said it is her vision to work hard to keep the program running, identify its shortcomings and improve on the areas.

“The whole school feeding secretariat came with me, I want everyone to come along so when we are doing the monitoring we know how things are going and also for the officers to educate anyone who asks any question.”

“The purpose is to acquaint myself with things that going on underground since I have been appointed, I need to work hard and make sure the program is in good shape.”

She said the impact of the school feeding program has been great as it has helped to increase enrollment and retain pupils in school.

“The impact has been laudable and great, before school feeding, the numbers of students were not encouraging, but with the advent of the program, the number of enrollment has been encouraging as it has increased and retained enrollment in school.”

The Minister said the school feeding program has helped create employment opportunities, particularly for women.

“The school feeding has helped a lot of women, looking at the employment of over 34,000 caterers, cooks and even farmers. Not only women but men as well are benefiting.”
