Ghanaians need to be informed on climate change

The Minister for Employment and Labour Relations Ignatius Baffour Awuah says it is critical for Ghanaians to be informed about the effects of their choices on climate change.

Madam Gloria Bortelei Noi, delivering a speech on behalf of the Labour Minister during a sensitization and awareness creation workshop on the National Green Jobs Strategy programme in Takoradi said the project is to guide the implementation of measures for the maximization of job creation potentials of the emerging green economy.

He added that people can only take full advantage of this opportunity when they make deliberate efforts to ensure that workers and job seekers acquire the necessary skills relevant to the emerging green economy.

The Western Regional Minister whose speech was delivered by the Chief Director of the Western Regional Coordinating Council Frederick Agyemang said the creation of green jobs will additionally contribute to poverty reduction and the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

He said the National Green Jobs Strategy Project will be successful if all stakeholders including government institutions, the private sector, and civil society organizations collaborate effectively.

Ebenezer Martey, Business Development Advisor for the Green Project SNV said climate change is a threat to future growth and development.

SNV through the Green Project is happy to be associated with the National Green Jobs project and hopes that the strategy when fully implemented by all will generate a lot of interest especially when it comes to investment in green jobs for a more sustainable future
