Ghana’s President intervenes in the dismissal of students who insulted him

The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has intervened in the case of the eight students who were expelled from the Chiana Senior High School for insulting him.
A statement from the Ministry of Education sighted by GhanaPlus.com and signed by the Spokesperson of the Ministry; Kwasi Kwarteng said the President intervened after his attention was drawn to the development.
“Consequently, the Minister of Education, Dr YawAdutwum has directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to consider an alternative disciplinary action instead of dismissal,” the statement said.
GES dismiss 8students for insulting President Akufo-Addo
Ghana Education Service (GES), a government of Ghana institution cloth among other things, the responsibility to ensure all Ghanaian children of school-going age are provided with inclusive and equitable quality formal education and training on Thursday, January 12, dismissed eight students of the Chiana Senior High School in the Upper East Region for misconduct.
The girls were said to have used unsavory language on the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in a viral video.
JoyNews report said prior to their dismissal, the teenage girls had been on suspension.
“The GES says its investigation into the incident confirmed that the students used unsavoury language against the President,” the report added.
A copy of the video sighted by GhanaPls.com saw the students; all form two female students raining unpleasant insults on the first gentleman of Ghana.
The video is believed to have been shot on October last year when the President made his infamous ‘Sika Mpe Dede’ comment.
