A two-hour walk to stop the transmission of HIV and AIDS in the Western Region has been organised by the Ghana HIV and AIDS Network (GHANET).
The walk began at the Takoradi Technical Institute entrance and went through a few streets in Effiakuma before ending at the Effia Police Park, where both children and adults received education on new pathogens and methods of prevention or abstinence.
Celebrities who joined school children and other community members in the walk to commemorate AIDS Day under the theme “Let Communities Lead” included Ms. Joyce Begyina, the Effia Kwesimintsin Municipal Assembly Health Director, the Chief of Apremdo, Nana Egya Kwamena XI, and Ms. Eva Ankrah from Hurds Foundation.
The Chief of Apremdo, Nana Egya Kwamena XI, urged the young people to control their sexual drive.
According to him, communities require physically fit persons to support their development goals, and young people, who are crucial to these processes, must protect their lives from HIV and AIDS’s destructive forces with all of their might.
Youth illnesses, according to Ms Begyina, are on the rise and make up 7% of all new infections.
In order to safeguard the girl child, she urged widespread education and highlighted that female sex workers faced significant exposure dangers.
