Gov't must absorb BECE registration fee for private school students

Acting Western regional chairman, of Ghana National Association of Private Schools Mr Fedinand Asare Nyame calls on the government to absorb BECE registration fees for private and government schools.

According to Mr Nyame, it is gross discrimination against private schools as parents of private school students equally pay taxes as that of public schools.

Mr Nyame also indicated that newly established private schools must be given a tax exemption of 5 years to help them grow.

He made these remarks at the Annual GNAPS Week Durbar and March Pass under the theme 2024 ELECTIONS: THE PRIVATE EDUCATION MANIFESTO where he called on candidates to include in their manifesto for the upcoming elections that, BECE registration for private schools will be absorbed.

He also highlighted the GETFUND in his demands saying, “The GETFUND should support private schools with infrastructure and transportation.”

“There should also be duty-free for vehicles used by all private schools in the country and the Minister of Education to the GES should assist private schools with education materials in the pre-tertiary institution.”
