Ignore petition against community mining initiative in Ellembelle

An ongoing petition is urging people to boycott the upcoming launch of a community mining initiative in the Ellemebelle District.

The Ellembelle District Assembly, headed by Mr Kwasi Bonzo as the District Chief Executive is launching a community mining initiative to help regulate illegal mining in the district.

However, some indigenes of Ellembelle are against this initiative with the belief that it is illegal mining being branded as community mining hence people are being to sign a petition to halt the launch.

Mr Kwasi Bonzo speaking to Skyy News said this initiative is to help curb illegal mining, protect the water and give the youth a livelihood.

“This initiative has taken six years to come to reality, a lot of the illegal miners took over the Ellembelle community but today we are trying to regulate by introducing community mining.”

He said the indigenes championing the petition must be ignored as they try to infuse chieftaincy politics into government work.

“The leaders of these people championing this initiative are trying to infuse chieftaincy politics which we are not allowing that – A man calling himself King Kaku Ackah is calling himself a chief but he is not a chief in Ellembelle, and not a single chief is against this initiative.:”
