Students at the Anto-Aboso D/A Junior High School (JHS) in the Shama District of the Western Region are stranded after a majority of teachers were transferred from the school.

The Skyy News team was at the school to verify the information and it was confirmed by some students that since school re-opened on Monday, October 2, they have not been given any lesson by a teacher in class.

According to some students who spoke to Skyy News, all teachers in the school have been transferred with the exception of two teachers who are not enough to cater for the whole JHS.

They told Skyy Power FM’s Journalist Alex Tagoe that they have no idea as to why the teachers were transferred but confirmed that the situation is not favouring them in terms of academic work.

A JHS 2 student said, “Since school resumed, we had information that all of our teachers have been transferred from the school and because of that we have not been given any lesson from a teacher for 2 weeks.”

“Only two new teachers are left in the school which is not enough to teach from JHS 1 to 3 on all subjects.”

“Our headmistress keeps telling us new teachers will be coming in, but looking at the situation, we are losing out because we will be competing with other schools for the same BECE exams and it’s been two weeks now without any lesson, how much long can we wait?”

Another student said, “We don’t actually know what is going on at the moment, but I remember most of our teachers were not on good terms with the headmistress over decision-making. The headmistress sometimes makes a decision which is not in favour of the teachers such as the payment of extra class fees and others which brought some tension in the school.”

Some parents having their wards in the school also spoke to Skyy News condemning the current situation in the school and blaming the headmistress for this unfortunate incident.

A parent said, “I have my ward in the school but after school resumed this term, he comes home telling me no teacher has been coming to class to teach. The information I had concerning the situation is that the headmistress requested for the teachers to be transferred alleging the headmistress claimed she cannot continue working with them.”

“This is a problem for us as parents now, our kids go to school without learning anything and they come back home, Is it important for them to go if there is no teacher to teach them, we believe the major problem is coming from the headteacher and we would wish for her to leave the school.”

An old student of the school also spoke to Skyy News claiming that, the teachers transferred are some of the best teachers and was shocked to learn that they have been transferred with no tangible reason.

“I believe if these teachers are in the school they will help the students like how they did to me to achieve good grades, I would wish for their return,” she said.

The students complained of some unfavourable conditions concerning the state of facilities in the school revealing that they have no desk to sit on, no textbooks for learning and constant shit bombing by some unscrupulous individuals as a result of the deplorable nature of the school building.

The students and parents called on the government and benevolent individuals to donate desks and textbooks to the school, including helping to rehabilitate their school buildings.

Meanwhile, the Headmistress of Anto-Aboso DA JHS (Name Withheld) refused to comment on the situation when Skyy News paid her a visit and she insisted that the situation was under control
