President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat to award a full scholarship to a needy but brilliant student from the Adeiso Senior High School who scored 8As in the recent WASSCE result released by the West African Examination Council.
Master Thomas Amoaning, a resident of Asuaba in Adeiso, a deprived community in the Eastern Region and a General Art student defied all odds to score all ones in all eight (8) subjects including Elective Mathematics, Economics, Geography, and Government.
His story has been making rounds on social media space for days now.
Full Scholarship package for Thomas Amoaning
A statement from the Secretariat and signed by the Registrar of Scholarship, Kingsley Agyemang said “H.E. President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo -Addo has taken notice of a social media video reporting of excellent results of Thomas Amoaning who lives in Asuaba near Adeiso and attended Adeiso SHS. The student reportedly scored 8’A’s in the recently released WASSCE Results”.
“As a normal practice and taking into consideration the socio-geographical background of the student, H. E. the President has expressly directed the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat to grant a full scholarship award to the student for his tertiary studies,” the statement added.
According to the statement, officials of the state-owned education scholarship institution had already contacted the parent of Master Amoaning and would follow it with a visit for further discussions.
“The Scholarship Secretariat has subsequently established contact with the student’s parent and will on Friday, 27th November 2020 pay a visit to the family to discuss their needs in detail”.
