NPP took office and turned around a poorly managed economy – Stephen Ntim – Skyy Power FM

The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Stephen Ntim says the NPP government recorded an impressive 7% average GDP growth for 3 fiscal years spanning from 2017 through 2019.

Mr Ntim said had covid-19 not happened, Ghana’s economy would have continued to grow through 2020 and the story of Ghana’s economy today would not have been that of hardship.

He said the NDC Mahama administration performed poorly and the GDP declined consistently from the 2013 – 2016 period.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, April 4, Mr Ntim said the NPP government took office in 2017 and turned around a mismanaged collapsed economy from the NDC and there has been growth in all sectors of the economy.

He said, “Those who could not manage Ghana’s economy in a relatively stable state are speaking against the current government’s performance… the industrial sector grew from 4.3% in 2016 to 15.6% in 2017, the services sector decreased from 2.8% in 2016 to 3.4% in 2017 and agriculture sector grew from 2.7% in 2016 in 6.2% in 2017.”

Mr Ntim says the government has addressed the call to reduce its size by significantly reducing the number of ministers and deputy ministers and also some cost-cutting measures due to the current economic challenges.

He said, “The number of ministers and deputy ministers has been significantly reduced from 126 to 86, this is because we are a listening party.”
