Oil & Gas revenue: Western Region allocated least, Upper East highest

The Annual Budget Funding Amount (ABFA) for petroleum revenue indicates that the Western Region is the region with the least budget allocated.

This was revealed at a stakeholders dissemination workshop on the 2020 reports on the mining and oil and gas sectors by the Ghana Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (GEITI) on Wednesday, September 6.

The share of ABFA expenditure cuts across Agriculture, Health and Education in all 10 regions from 2011 to 2022.

1st Upper East Region – 142,203,630.92

2nd Northern Region – 94,357,797.11

3rd Ashanti Region – 89,087,332.78

4th Central Region 64,667,925.67

5th Greater Accra -61,462,668.94

6th Upper West – 51,426,401.70

7th Eastern region – 28,156,337.50

8th Volta region – 27,000,845.82

9th – Western Region – 24,503,543.05

Brong Ahafo Region – N/A

Mr Wilson Arthur, a participant a the GEITI workshop said the Western Region is being treated as a quarry site of Ghana.

He said one of the reasons for this situation is that none of the cabinet members is from the Western Region hence the reason for such ill-treatment to the region.

He added that the leadership of the Western Region are taken steps to address this situation and things will soon change after the just-ended Development Dialogue at Busua Beach.
