Ophelia Hayford, wife of murdered MP, Ekow Quansah Hayford quits Police Service to run for Parliament
Ophelia Hayford, the wife of the murdered Member of Parliament for Mfantseman Constituency, Ekow Quansah Hayford, has quit the Ghana Police Service in order to replace him as the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman Constituency.
Reports according to Asempa FM, an Accra-based radio station indicate that Mrs. Ophelia Hayford has been selected to be her husband’s replacement for the NPP party in the upcoming December 2020 Election.
The National Leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) will, however, need to meet and either approve or decline the decision for her to aspire for the Mfantseman seat in Parliament.
Ophelia Hayford selected by NPP to replace late husband
In a meeting held by the NPP on Tuesday, Mrs. Ophelia Hayford who is an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) was selected to replace the late Ekow Quansah Hayford.
Upon her selection, she sent her resignation letter to the Administration of the Ghana Police Service.
This comes a few days after Mr. Ekow Kwansah Hayford, who had already submitted his Parliamentary nomination form to the Electoral Commission on Thursday, October 8, 2020, to be re-elected as the member of parliament for his constituency, was murdered by armed robbers.
