Over 71,000 Ghana cards yet to be issued to the public

Western Region National Identification Authority (NIA) from November 2021 till date has registered about 65,864 people into the National Data.

71,456 cards are yet to be issued as 67,937 of those cards are from the mass card registration. Though these cards are ready, people are not coming for them.

Western Regional NIA boss Mr Albert Sackey disclosed this on the Jolly Breakfast Show (JBS) on Tuesday, August 2nd.

Following the announcement by the communications minister on the extension of the sim cards registration, the rush by the public to the offices of the NIA for their Ghana cards has reduced.

Mr Sackey said this is the right time for people to register than to wait till the last day.

“The mass registration was done in electoral areas, and in the course of printing the cards, they either travelled or left the location, others after taking their fingerprints, will receive a call and leave which they never return.”

“We have the cards of all these people in our office which we are waiting for them to come for it, we are planning of opening a district office, for example, if we open an office in Sekondi, all the electoral areas in Sekondi will be under that office and all the cards will be there, meaning we will not take the cards to any electoral area again.”
