People of Western Region need to change their mindset and have united front to call for development

The UNDP Human Development Report on Western Region released in 2013 aptly recommended that it would take a new paradigm shift of all development Actors – Traditional Leaders, Citizens Leadership, Corporate, Members of Parliament and Government to intentionally transform the development of Western.

The status quo of looking on to the Government, Members of Parliament (MPs) and Corporate Institutions to determine what they want to do for the region in terms of development has not delivered impact and would not suffice going forward.

Speaking on this report, The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Skyy Media Group, Mr Wilson Arthur said on the Jolly Breakfast Show on Skyy Power 93.5FM that, for Western Region to receive its deserved national cake, locals of the region need to have a change of mindset and have a united front.

He said, “The Members of Parliament (MPs), MMDCES, Chiefs and the locals of the region need to have a change of mindset by resetting their thought and look forward to the betterment of everybody and not individuals.”

He said there is a lot of work to do in the Western Region in terms of people having a paradigm shift in order for the government to have a different perception of the region.

According to him, there are factions among groups and people in the region do want to see individuals from the region prosper.

Measuring the development of the region, he said he will rather measure development by the well-being of the people in the region.

He said, “For example, if I am a student who recently completed school, my chances of getting a job in the region will determine my well-being, If as a musician and I want a hit song, my chances of staying in the region and getting it will determine my well-being, the traffic situation, basic public services and money spent in a day all determines it and we can measure development in the region with other regions by that.”

He said, there can be road and infrastructure development but the opportunities and the well-being in the region are what we should measure our development with.

Mr Wilson indicated that the target of the people of the Western Region is to make the region fertile land and supportive of human capital development.

He said this can be done by people of the Western Region uniting and supporting each other to call for strategic development to improve the well-being of the people.
