Police investigating Effia-Nkwanta Hospital’s alleged missing baby story
The Ghana Police Service is investigating the case of an alleged missing baby at the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital in Sekondi.
Information that was circulating on social media indicated that some staff of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi had allegedly sold the baby of a teenage mother.
According to the viral news which was purported by Kelvin Taylor, a political activist, the pregnant teenager was referred to the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital from the Kwesimintsim Hospital after her water broke due to some complications.
After she safely delivered a baby girl at the hospital, GHS180 was demanded from the family so the baby could be put in an incubator because she was premature.
As they could not provide the said amount of money, the baby was pronounced dead the following day and the family were told the baby has been already taken to the mortuary.
According to allegations labelled against the hospital, the staff denied the family from seeing the body of the baby and even demanded money before they see the deceased baby which raised suspicion that the baby had been stolen.
However, Effia-Nkwanta Hospital released a statement on Monday, April 11, denying these allegations made against the hospital stating, “The allegation is full of inaccuracies and distortions and that no baby has been stolen at the Hospital.”
“Also, the matter has been reported to the Police and is currently being investigated. We assure the public they openness and transparency are at the hearts of our operations and that the public is always welcome to solicit any information or clarification on issues bothering them.”
