Political Science lecturer calls on Western Regional leaders to advocate for development – Skyy Power FM
A political science lecturer at the University of Cape Coast is calling on the people of the Western Region to advocate for development and demand a fair share of the national cake.
Dr Jonathan Asante Okyere speaking on Skyy Power FM’s Jolly Breakfast Show with Naomi Afriyie Nyanor said the region has been deprived of its deserving development and leaders of the region should make a conscious effort to use their bargaining chip to ensure they are not short-changed.
He said leaders of the region must send a strong warning to the two political parties concerning the rage in the hearts of Western indigenes.
“We have to make a conscious effort and use what we have as our bargaining chip to ensure people in the West are not short changes, same as what happened in Nigeria Delta.”
“That conscious effort if not backed by self-centeredness, the leadership of the West must sit down and send a strong warning to both the NPP and the NDC that if they are not fairly represented then they should count them out of this.”
Speaking on some solutions, he said the people of the region must come up with a plan asking for a stake in the national cake which when granted, must be used for the development the region is lacking.
“The chiefs should stop going for a pittance, they hold sway over the people, we are fighting for the region. We should come up with a plan asking for a stake, and this stake should be used for development.”
“If they don’t agree then the youth of the West must begin to rise because you cannot have all these resources from this region and a higher number of the people will be unemployed,” he added.
