Some residents of the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Area have varied ideas and sentiments over Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten’s decision to leave the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The former NPP party stalwart and candidate for party president is visibly dissatisfied with events and developments surrounding the party’s most recent super delegates convention.
While Ghanaians were expecting a declaration, his news conference details to quit and run for office independently caused conflicting emotions and ideas among certain members of the public, according to interviews with the Ghana News Agency.
A lecturer at the Takoradi Technical University named Mr Micheal Asare Appiah called the choice “political suicide.”
He has terminated his political career; he cannot rejoin the NPP again, even if he is welcomed; his return would be greeted with mistrust. Going independent will not win him the presidency, which he so desperately craved.
I believe the action to be retaliation for his claimed coercion of his agents and government support appointees’ support for Bawumia because he will not even receive 5% of the total votes in 2024.
Mr. Appiah hoped the irate Party Man had persisted so that the party could address his complaints.
In order to preserve party unity, he stressed, you should wait until a flagbearer is chosen before expressing your support for that individual.
He would have been regarded as a real statesman and patriot as a result of this. I consider his action to be extremely egotistical and an assertion of his right to the Presidency. Meanwhile, Mr. Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen has received praise from Richard Kirk Mensah, the NDC’s Western Regional Communication Officer, for what he called, “For this bold decision to resign from NPP.
Mr Emmanuel Opoku, a Media Practitioner, said, “He is behaving like a child who brings his football for guys to play and when he is scored, he sells them he’s taking his ball away? Napo Ali Fuisine, a journalist, was of the view that nobody should allow his rights to be abused and thus there was no need to stay in camps where you don’t feel welcomed, “Why stay in a place where you are not welcomed?”
Mr. Emmanuel Gamson lauded his decision to take his Destiny into his own hands, “This is the time or never”, Mr. Isaac Arko, a Social Commentator, thought that Mr. Kyerematen should not have resigned from the competition in the first place…”Alan has issues in NPP and he has to face it.” Mr Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremanten took a similar decision in 2008 on grounds of seemly denial for the flagbearership race.
