RTI Commission organises sensitisation exercise for continuous awareness of law in Takoradi – Skyy Power FM

The Right To Information (RTI) Commission has organised a sensitisation exercise for the people in the Western Region to sustain a continuous awareness of the law.

The Right to Information Act, 2019 (ACT 989) was passed by the Parliament of Ghana in 2019 and was assented to by the President the same year to give the constitutional right to access information held by public institutions.

The Ghanaian government recognizes the importance of the RTI law to foster a culture of transparency and accountability in public affairs particularly in a democratic society like Ghana.

Lawyer Yaw Sarpong Boateng, the Executive Secretary of the RTI Commission speaking at a public lecture at the Takoradi Technical University said, organisations who refuse to give out information through RTI law are subjected to pay some administrative penalties.

Some students of Takoradi Technical University shared their opinion on the RTI law after the public lecture.

Some students indicated that this was their first time hearing of such a law and the sensitisation exercise was an eye opener which they will make good use of it.”
