Seasonal malaria chemo prevention have reduce malaria in Yendi municipal.

The implementation of Seasonal Malaria Chemo Prevention (SMC) has reduced malaria in the country since it implementation in 2019 in the northern sector especially in Yendi municipality, the assistant health promotion officer, Mr Adam Ibn Abass has said.

The SMC covers only children from three(3) months to five(5) years. These is the stage malaria normally disturb and May kill children easily than adults.

The distribution of the SMC drugs to the qualified children normally start in the raining season during middle of the season when mosquitoes are rampant in the communities due to the wet nature and remains of stagnant water in the localities.

Other implementations that has come to help reduced and prevent us from malaria include, point mass distribution (PMD) of mosquito net, indoor residential spray and others.

The cause of malaria is mosquitoes.

“Research have shown that, in Africa malaria kills a child in every minute and this has shown how Severe malaria is in Africa”.

Speaking on Gbewaa Radio health program he indicate that Yendi municipal malaria under five(5) years children since SMC implementation has been reducing. On the first year parents were not conversant with the drug until the see it importance.

Ranging from the past two(2) years the Municipal recorded cases is as fellows in 2020, 6,169 mal malaria cases were recorded at the OPD with 204 severe cases as compared to 2021, 5,750 mal cases at OPD were recorded with 65 severe cases.

These has shown that when parents pay more attention to the drug malaria will reduce drastically and burden on parents.

He therefore encourage parents and defaulters to pay closed attention to the children to help them take the drug in order to prevent malaria.
