Sekondi College awarded STMA 2023 overall best farmer title

The Sekondi-College (Secko) in the Western Region has presented the 2023 overall best farmer award in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

The District Farmers Day Awards was organised on the 24th of November 2023 but due to a mishap, Secko was not awarded what it was due.

This comes after the Head of Department of Agriculture in Sekondi College presented the school farm as his to win the prestigious award ahead of the school.

After weeks of investigation, it was concluded by the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) that, Osagyefo Rowell Stephens, is not the rightful recipient hence reverting the award to Sekondi College.

The Deputy Public Relations Officer for STMA Grace Oswell Aidoo says this move was necessitated to put things in place and STMA will make sure this mistake is not repeated in the future.

She said, “We realised that the award winner presented exhibits that did not belong to him, according to our investigation and we are here to present Sekondi College the award, who are the right owners of the award.”

The Headmistress of Sekondi College, Guddy Abena Ampomaah Kermah told Skyy News the school has been looking forward to this award.

“We have been working hard on our farms, we use produce from the farm to feed the students and sell some of the produce as well so this is an award we have been looking forward to.”
