Sekondi MP calls for cool heads to prevail on Sekondi Zongo Clinic project issue – Skyy Power FM
The Member of Parliament for Sekondi Constituency, Lawyer Andrew Egyapa Mercer has called for cool heads to prevail on issues regarding the Sekondi Zongo Clinic project.
The MP says he was contacted by the STMA Health director, Dr Sutherland in September 2022, to approve the release of funds from the Sekondi NHIA Health Fund to complete the Sekondi Health clinic and make it operational which he approved.
This comes after some residents of Sekondi led by the Muslim youth chief of the Western Region Ahmed Rufai Abubakar Tanko Nuhu are refuting claims by Mr Andrew Egyapa Mercer, Member of Parliament (MP) of Sekondi that he is funding the construction of the Sekondi Zongo clinic.

The Nasara Coordinator Alhaji Labib speaking during a visit by the MP to Sekondi Zongo stated that the Zongo clinic was at its current level of construction thanks to the funding of the MP.
He said, “Sometime in September, the then Metro Health Director, Dr Sutherland sent me a message informing me about the Sekondi Zongo clinic project asking if I can approve funds from the Sekondi NHIA fund to complete the project which I approved.”
“After the approval, Dr Sutherland started to update me on the progress of work being done at the clinic from the NHIA funds”
Lawyer Andrew Egyapa Mercer added that he has receipts for all the works on the Zongo Clinic funded by the Sekondi NHIA fund and Dr Sutherland is also available to clarify all issues.
“I have all the receipts from the painters, plumbers and all the service providers who worked on the project including equipment bought for the clinic”
But the Zongo Youth Chief for the Western Region is strongly opposed to the claims by the MP saying the MP has not committed any funds to the project.
Rufai Abubakar Tanko Nuhu however accepted to sit with the MP to find an amicable solution to the problem.
