Simcard reregistration deadline too short
The Western Regional Mobile Money Association Chairman says the 2 months period for Simcard registration will be not be enough for the whole exercise.
Nana Kofi Odeneho speaking on the Jolly Breakfast on Skyy Power 93.5FM on Monday August 1, said that “We dont’t agree with the government on the deadline of SIM registration because the registration process and the Mobile Money business helps with communication in the health and education sector.”
He indicated that the acquisition of Ghana card, the sole Identification that can be used to register one’s SIM has been a problem.
“The government is also aware a lot of people are yet to receive their Ghana card, others have errors on their card that needs to be rectified which has not been done.”
According to him, the Ghana Card is the sole problem that has caused the delay of the whole process and the government should rather focus on making the process smooth.
He suggested the whole year for the exercise because 2 months will still not be enough.
This comes after deadline for the sim card re-registration exercise was extended to September 30, 2022 following concerns by Ghanaians.
Addressing the Press on Sunday, Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said the exercise will be extended for two more months.
She said the program will be extended to 30th September to end on the anniversary of its commencement which will be one full year of SIM registration.
Mrs Ursula Owusu Ekuful added that It will be reviewed at the end of this month and any SIM that has not been fully registered by the end of August will be barred from receiving certain services including voice and data services.
