The Environmental Health Department task force of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has embarked on an exercise to arrest stray animals in the Metropolis.
The Environmental Health Department Director Mr Abdul Karime Hudu speaking on Skyy Power FM’s Jolly Breakfast Show said the task force is looking out for farm animals, particularly cows, goats, sheep and poultry.
He said the animals arrested would be auctioned to the public if the owners failed to come after a 7-day period.
He added that farmers without permits to rear animals would also be processed to court if found guilty.
“This year is not like the previous year because most of our members are not available for the job so we have embarked on only 4 operations this year.”
“We can arrest about 40 farm animals on one operation, this shows how the stray animals are causing issues in the Metropolis.”
He said citizens whose properties are destroyed by stray animals must report to the Office of Environmental Health to see to it that the owners of these animals pay for the cost of the property destroyed.
“If your property gets destroyed by a stray animal and you can identify the owner, just report it to our office and we will take it on from there.:
Mr Karime Hudu said as the cases of typhoid fever keep increasing in the Metropolis, the Health Department has embarked on a sensitisation exercise to create awareness and reduce the disease.
