Stop being beggars of suits and holding cups in hand from one European country to another – African leaders told

The Deputy National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Elvis Banoemuleng Botah has said the only way Africa could free itself from the clutches of Western powers was for African leaders to be masters in their own right and stop running to the West for assistance every now and then.

Speaking on Pan African Television on Thursday April 29, 2021 he said everything Africa was experiencing in terms of under development should be blamed on its leaders who have turned into beggars of suits and holding cups in hand from one European Country to the other.

“I mean the stupidity we experience is only the flood gate opened by our leaders, I live to see the day where we have true leadership, …………meanwhile the canopy that addresses this whole matter is for African leaders to rise up from their slumber and stop being beggars of suits and stop holding cups in hand, roaming from one European country to the other.

The NPP communicator noted, surprisingly, for a continent which was a source of virtually every raw material which had been the basis for the industrialization drive in many continent around the world, its leaders have failed to act accordingly to the interest and benefits of its citizenry.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken holds Virtual Talks with two African Presidents

Mr Banoemuleng Botah made the comment while speaking on Good Morning Africa discussions monitored by GhanaPlus.com about the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken’s caution to Africa concerning China and its influx in the continent.

Mr Blinken in virtual talks with Presidents of Nigeria and Kenya on Tuesday, April 28 cautioned Africa to beware of China, a major competitor in world power’s growing role in the continent.

Deal with China with eyes open

He noted Africans nations should approach their relationships with their eyes opened when dealing with the Asian country which had become a major financial contributor and support to African countries.

“We’re not asking anyone to choose between the United States or China, but I would encourage you to ask those tough questions, to dig beneath the surface, to demand transparency and to make informed choices about what is best for you and your countries,” Blinken said.

Blinken raised concerns nations in the continent have been saddled with unsustainable debts after taking Chinese loans one of whom, Zambia, defaulted last year.

“You should be looking hard at whether when other countries come in to build a big infrastructure project, are they bringing their own workers with them or are they giving jobs to people in the country where they’re making investments?” Blinken asked.

Stop begging for help from Western powers

Reacting to the caution, he applauded the US for the observation and the caution, even though he indicated American may have done more harm to the continent than China adding the only way the continent could rid itself from abuse of any form being it from China, America or any other country  was for its leaders to stop depending on them for aids and supports.
