Traders whose shops got burnt at Takoradi makeshift market supported with loans

About One Hundred (100) traders at the Takoradi Makeshift market whose shops got burnt some six months ago were on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, supported with a total amount of about One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS150,000) by the Microfinance and Small Scale Loans Center (MASLOC) to enable them to bounce back to business.

The affected traders who received their payment today had between GHc2000 and GHc1000.

The CEO of MASLOC, Mrs Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakaria spoke to our news team on the sidelines of the disbursement in Takoradi this afternoon.

She said, “People have the perception that Masloc loans are for free but we want the general public to know that monies given as loans are not for free, if so, then we cannot continue our work.”

“Our money is a revolving fund so we give to people who are capable of paying and the repayment of the monies will determine if we should continue giving the loan to these women.”

She however encouraged the traders to be prompt in paying back the loan so others can also benefit.

“A hundred women given the loan are not too much of a number, but this is a special case and if the repayment is encouraging, we will come back and increase the amount for them.”
