TTU students appeal to assembly to provide street lights on dangerous stretches leading to campus – Skyy Power FM
Some students at the Takoradi Technical University say they fear for their lives and safety due to the absence of street lights along the stretch that leads to the TTU junction after the Chinese restaurant.
Speaking to Skyy News, some evening students who live around New Takoradi said, they are always scared when going to lectures and the worst of it all is when they are returning home.
According to them, hoodlums hide in the dark and collect their laptops, mobile phones, and money among other things.
A student said, “Most of us live at New Takoradi and come to campus for lectures at night and also to study. Going back home seems to be very dangerous because, hoodlums hide in the dark and attack us to take our laptops, mobiles phones and among others”.
They also added that sometimes they are threatened with knives if they refuse to give what the hoodlums request from them.
Some students who also go to campus late in the night to study find it difficult to return home because there is always the fear of being attacked.
Speaking to the females from the Takoradi Technical University who use the stretch, they said, some of them are scared of being raped.
“As a lady, I get very scared when using this stretch at night because I have to go for lectures. We are sometimes threatened with knives”.
Even though there are policemen at the junction, they do not always show up. This makes it more risky for them they added.
They also noted that, due to the fear, they mostly miss lectures.
They are therefore appealing to the assembly to come to their aid by providing streetlights on this stretch.
