TV3’s broadcaster, Roland Walker has called out the Christian Council of Ghana following their visit to some galamsey sites in the country.
Speaking on TV3 NewDay on Monday, October 17, monitored by GhanaPlus.com, he said the decision to visit the galamsey site was a misplaced priority.
According to Mr Walker, the clergy who stormed the galamsey sites had all the powers and the medium to speak plainly without avoiding unpleasant or embarrassing issues to the powers that be instead of visiting the site.
Mr Walker who revealed Rev Dr Paul Boafo, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church and former Chairman of the Christian Council who was part of the clergy who visited the galamsey site was his God father said their action is hypocritical.
“The actions by the pastors and of cause, Rev Dr Paul Boafo Christian Council is my Godfather, Good morning to you but I have to say that the rest of the team that went there had a misplaced priority, the action itself was an action that they should not have even undertaken in the first place,” Mr Walker said .
“Look, if there is one group, religious group, the biggest group that is ever listened to by those who legislate in this country. Those who lead the Judiciary and the Presidency, is the church. You remember when we had the bill, the Anti-LGBTQ bill that is before Parliament. The Pentecostal churches and the other members of the clergy, they threatened the Presidency and Parliament, if they ever not approve the bill, the President and his men and his party in the next election, they will see,” he added.
“They said they will see so if you have this group that has so much might and clout and could permeate every facet of society by way of decision making and public opinion, undertake this action, I will describe it as quite hypocritical as it is because you have all the will, the medium and the platform to be able to call a spade a spade, what they are undertaking is bad,” Mr Walker lamented.
You should have visit the mining sites in the first place – Rolland Walker tells Christian Council
The Members of the Christian Council including, Rev Dr. Paul Boafo, Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev Prof Paul Frimpong Manso together with others visited one of the mining sites at adadentem to have a firsthand experience of the destruction caused by the illegal mining activity.
TV3 report, while there, the clergy prayed to evoked God’s will on those destroying the lands and water bodies.
“Any politician whose community, galamsey is ongoing the people should reject him. Any party tolerating this galamsey, the party should be rejected. Party Chairman, party Secretary, party Sponsors, you have disgraced us. You have become a disgrace and a disaster to this nation.
“We should think about the people, we should think about posterity, my heart is burning. We should change, and the corruption, corruption, corruption, almighty corruption, politicians we are tired of you. Media also we are tired of you, all of us, pastors and church members we should change and repent and have a different attitude and make Ghana better,” Prof Frimpong Manso who spoke on behalf of the clergy said.
But Mr Walker said they shouldn’t have embarked on the journey in the first place.
