Uncompleted Apremdo gutters and roads are making us sick

Residents of Apremdo, a community in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality of the Western Region are calling on authorities to do the needful by completing the abandoned town road that was started years ago.

According to them, the contractor who started constructing the roads by first constructing the gutters has abandoned the project, leaving residents in a state of discomfort.

According to some residents, the abandoned gutters, because it was not completed hold the water stagnant hence leading to the breeding of mosquitoes.

They indicated the deadly malaria disease has become part and parcel of their life struggle as most residents keep contracting the disease due to the massive breeding of mosquitoes in the community.

However, the Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim Constituency says the contractor responsible for the construction of the Apremdo town road has been fully paid but has refused to work,

He said this during an interaction on the Jolly Breakfast Show (JBS) on Skyy Power 93.5FM on Monday, February 21.

He noted that the road project was launched on February 20, 2020, under the One Million dollar One Constituency policy during the tenure of the immediate past MP, Joseph Mensah.

“The contractor came on site when we were about to hold elections for the NPP primaries….right after we were done with the elections and I emerged as a winner, he left and has since not stepped his foot on the site.”

“The people of Apremdo are under severe stress, the road is bad and the gutters are choked. I had to do a follow-up and after an engagement with him, the problem was centred on money.”

“I filed a question in parliament to the Ministry of Finance and through the process, he was paid over GHS1 million, but still insists he will not work on the road, I think this is a plan to sabotage me.”

“He told me point blank that he has been paid but the payment was delayed and has used the money to settle some debts in relation to the contract so he will not work on the road.”

Mr Armah believes this is a ploy to sabotage the government and also to sabotage people who are ready to work and help the country.
