Vetting for orphan constituencies ends successfully

The NPP parliamentary primaries vetting for orphan constituencies successfully ended yesterday with aspiring candidates passing.

Out of 17 constituencies in the Western Region, 6 were won by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and are termed the orphan constituencies namely; Amenfi Central, Amenfi East, Prestea-Huni Valley, Wassa East, Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira and Ellembele Constituency.

Fourteen candidates in total were vetted in the Western Region, with some notables being former MP for Prestea Huni-Valley, Babara Oteng Gyasi, former MP Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira, Catherine Afeku and the District Chief Executive for Ellembelle, Mr Kwasi Bonzo.

In the Wassa East constituency, 3 aspirants were vetted namely, Mr Godfred Okyere Owusu, popularly known as Homeboy Spanky, Lawyer Gertrude Mona and Mr Patrick Tawiah, a retired police officer.

The new kid on the block, Abeka Dauda from the Ellembelle constituency passed the vetting successfully and was number 2 on the ballot to contest Mr Kwasi Bonzo.

Speaking to Skyy News he said he believes he is the man who can overthrow the incumbent MP, Armah Kofi Buah who doubles as the deputy minority leader in parliament.

Mr Kwasi Bonzo also said he is the right man for the job since he is the known face of the NPP in the constituency after contesting for three consecutive elections.

Chairman of the Western Regional Vetting Committee, Abdul Aziz Haruna Futa, the national Nasara Coordinator speaking to Skyy News said the process has been successful and everyone who came for the vetting was fit to contest for the primaries.
