The Wassa East District Assembly has banned 5 preachers in Wassa Ekutuase from using the Community Information Centre (CIC) for using it to verbally abuse each other.
This comes after 15 members of the community endorsed a petition to ban these preachers over reports of an unhealthy rivalry leading to tension among the followers of these preachers.
Mr Samuel Nana Essel, the presiding member of the Wassa East District Assembly speaking to Skyy News said it was necessary to take the bold step of banning them because the rivalry among the preachers was becoming fierce and could lead to conflict in the community.
He said they banned them from using the CIC for 3 months and hope the preachers can resolve their differences.
He said, “The word of God is a good message to bring people together and promote love but not to promote hate among one another.”
“I know how conflicts in communities start and this is a perfect example of one in which we are taking precautions before things escalate.”
