Water and Sanitation Minister embarks on 2-day working tour of Western Region – Skyy Power FM

The Sanitation and Water Resources Minister, Madam Cecilia Dapaah has embarked on a 2-day visit in the Western Region over illegal mining activities.

The Minister started her tour on Monday, June 5, and visited the Prestea Huni Valley Municipality where she paid a courtesy call to the chiefs and people of Himan Prestea in the Prestea Huni Valley Municipality.

The Divisional Chief of Prestea Himann Nana Ntaboah Prah IV speaking during the Minister’s visit called on the halt of illegal mining in the Prestea community as the area has been greatly affected by the menace.

Nana Ntaboah Prah IV also suggested that the government localise the fight against illegal mining because they have a fair idea of the format the illegal miners are using and since it’s their own community, they can fight it better.

The Minister in reply said, she will consider this request and put it before the central government and another request from the chief which she assured will be granted.

Madam Dapaah also visited the Ghana Water Company treatment plant at Bonsa to check on the current situation of the Bonsa River as it has been greatly affected by illegal mining activities.

She will continue her tour in the region where she will be visiting the Wassa East District on Tuesday, June 6, to check on the Ghana Water Company treatment plant in Daboase and the current situation of the Pra River.
