Western Region ranks 5th in road crashes in Ghana

The Western Regional Road Safety Authority Director in the Western Region, Mr Victor Bilson says road crashes and death is on the rise in 2023 compared to last year, 2022.

Speaking to Skyy News he said with the region with the worst road safety statistics, the Western Region is ranked number 5th in the country when it comes to the number of crashes and injuries. When it comes to death through road crashes, the Western Region is ranked 6th.

“The other regions ahead of the Western Region in terms of road crashes are Greater Accra, Ashanti Region, Eastern and the Central Region.”

“In terms of death, the Western Region ranks 6th and out of the regions mentioned being ahead of the Western Region, the Volta Region takes the 5th place.”

He said drivers need to exercise restraint on good roads because it is on good roads that most fatal crashes are recorded.

Mr Bilson also advised pedestrians to wear brightly coloured clothes when going out at night for easy identification by drivers as knockdowns are also on the rise.

“Wear brightly coloured clothes when going out at night, for easy identification, sometimes drivers find it difficult to see pedestrians when wearing dull clothes because most of our street lights are not working and some drivers have poor vision as well.”
