WR Minister calls on youth to be innovative to shape a brighter future for region

The Western Regional Minister Dr Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah is calling on the youth in the region to be innovative as their fresh thinking and energetic nature can be harnessed to shape a brighter future for the region.

The Minister said entrepreneurship is a powerful avenue for the youth to channel their creativity and ambitions.

He urged the youth to consider entrepreneurship in addition to the other career paths they have chosen.

The Regional Minister made these remarks at the 67th Independence Day Celebration in Sekondi under the theme: “Our Democracy, Our Pride.

“Our region is home to a wealth of untapped talent in various fields, from arts to entrepreneurship and innovation which presents the future of not only our economy but also, the aspirations and dreams of our young people. You are the driving force of any nation’s development.”

“Your innovative thinking, energy, and fresh perspectives can be harnessed to shape a brighter future for our region. Entrepreneurship, the spirit of starting and managing one’s own business, is a powerful avenue for young people to channel their creativity, ambition, and drive. I therefore encourage everyone, especially the youth, to consider entrepreneurship in addition to your academic and other career paths you have chosen, not only to seek employment but also to help address local and global challenges.”

“Therefore, I implore you to have a red car mentality to spot opportunities and create wealth for the development of the Western Region in our corner.”

The minister further stated that the government has provided several educational facilities in all regional senior high schools.

He said the government has given him the green light to complete every uncompleted school under GET FUND by the end of the year

In his remarks, he indicated that the government has prioritized STEM education and some schools in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis have been resourced to take up this role.

He said, “The government in the quest to increase access to Senior High School Education has provided several educational facilities in all Senior High Schools across the Country. Since 2017, the Government has expanded educational facilities in the region comprising Dining Halls, Dormitories, ICT Centres, Classroom blocks and Libraries in our Senior High and TVET Schools.”

“The government in partnership with Tullow Ghana, Ghana Gas Company, GNPC Foundation and Goldfields Ghana Foundation have constructed a number of infrastructure in our schools to support the growing student population.”

“Notable are the 300-capacity girls dormitory block for Huni Valley Senior High School funded by Goldfields Foundation and the 400-capacity girls dormitory block at Annor Adjaye Senior High School funded by Tullow Ghana. There is an – ongoing boys’ dormitory block for Takoradi Senior High School and girls dormitory block for Methodist Senior High School, boys’ and girls’ dormitory at Bompeh Secondary Technical School all funded by Tullow Ghana.”

“Government under the Global Partnership for Education, secured funding for improving equitable access to and quality of Basic Education in the Region.”

“However, there are a number of uncompleted school projects and the government has given the green light to complete all GETFUND projects by the close of the year to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.”
