A Security Analyst and Executive Director of Security Warehouse, Adam Bonaa has described as unfortunate comment by the Inspector General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh that it is only in heaven that there is no crime.
Speaking on TV3 current affairs programme, TheKeyPoint on Saturday, June 19, he indicated Mr Oppong-Boanuh was not the IGP for heaven; neither was he an IGP for any other country but Ghana hence the comment was inappropriate.
He noted for a crime which took the life of one of his own in such a gory manner his comment was unaccepted adding that if thinks he was tired to continue as Ghana’s Chief of Police, he should proceed on leave and make way for others to continue.
“I think that it was an unfortunate statement he made considering where he made the statement when one of his own officers had been shot dead, in that gory manner and if you saw the first images that were flashed, you don’t want to see it and so I thought that where he said it he shouldn’t have said that”.
“And as for manage expectations, is only heaven that there is no crime, I say that he is not the IGP for heaven, he is IGP for Ghana, he is not the IGP for West Africa, he is IGP for Ghana and I pay my taxes as a citizen of this country so mine is that if he is tired and he is suppose to go on retirement ,they should push him out and get those who can do the job do it in such a way that all of us don’t become victims in our own backyard because some of us you can’t go and live anywhere anymore you are here,” he said in the discussions monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
Leave if you are tired
According to him, the IGP had over stayed his time in the Ghana Police Service and making way for fresh hands would help fight crime effectively.
“And I say that I work with all of them, all the ranks, all of them so is not a personal thing but I think that when you are tired, ….he is on retirement, he got two extensions and so I keep saying that at this point you need to leave for others to come that way fighting crimes become more, more effective”.
It’s only heaven that there is no crime
The Inspector General of Police(IGP), Mr James Oppong-Boanuh in reaction to critics that the Ghana Police Service was not on top of issues following the murder of a Police Officer, a bullion van escort and a bystander in a daylight robbery at James Town in Accra said it was only in heaven that there was no crime.
He indicated the Police was doing all it can to protect lives indicating the critics do not know what they were talking bout.
“We are doing what we can to protect the people of Ghana. There is no society in the world where there is no crime. Even in the USA, UK and Sweden, where they, more or less have everything, they still have crime. The only place that doesn’t have crime is heaven and we are not in heaven,” he said.
“So, if any so-called security analyst is saying that we are not on top of our game and that’s why these things are happening, he does not know what he is talking about,” Mr Oppong Boanuh added.
