Youth in Wassa Akropong clash with police over death of indigene

Some youth in Wassa Akropong in the Amenfi East Municipality of the Western Region have clashed with police officers stationed in the town over the death of an indigene.

This has caused the youth to mobilise and pelt police officers with dangerous items at their stations.

This comes after Police officers at Akropong District Command at about 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 22, shot at a gentleman identified as Kofi when they were on a patrol within the town after they suspected him to be carrying a substance believed to be marijuana.

The reason was that the police were on high alert due to recent robbery incidents in the Wassa Akropong area.

He sustained some injuries and was responding to treatment at the hospital but unfortunately gave up the ghost on Sunday, February 25, prompting the irate youth to storm the police station.

Background:

According to reports, the victim after sighting the police began running and in an attempt to catch up with him, the police shot at his waist.

The news upon reaching the town sparked outrage among residents who stormed the police station and made them call a reinforcement team from the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.

This made the police use brute force to calm the situation and some residents were even shot with rubber bullets.
