Adwoa Safo’s Dome Kwabenya seat declared vacant by Privileges Committee

The Chairman of Parliament’s Privileges Committee, Mr Joseph Osei-Owusu has said the Parliamentary seat of the Member of Parliament for the Dome Kwabenya Constituency, Ms Sarah Adwoa Safo is vacant.
According to him, that was the conclusion reached by the committee following its hearing with the legislatures who absented themselves from the house for more than 15 consecutive sittings.
Mr Osei Owusu, myjoyonline report said made the revelation on JoyNews on Thursday, July 14.
He explained the Clerk of Parliament is required to officially inform the Electoral Commission of Ghana of the vacant seat in the house.
“In accordance with the law, it is for the clerk to inform the electoral commission that a vacancy has occurred, that is what the constitution says, that is what our report reflects,” Mr Osei Owusu said.
The Committee Chairman who is also the Member of Parliament for the Bekwai Constituency said the committee did all it could to get the Ms Adwoa Safo to appear before the committee but all prove futile.
Adwoa Safo granted leave of absent by President Akufo-Addo
The Dome Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Ms Sarah Adwoa Safo who is also the Minister of Gender, Children and Soial Protection was granted a leave of absent from her duties since October last year and has since not return.
A statement from the Presidency dated October, 6 and signed by the Director of the Communications, Mr Eugene Arhin and sighted by GhanaPlus.com said, Ms Adwoa Safo sought a leave of absence for personal reasons.
“The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has extended the leave of absence for the Minister of Gender Children and Social Protection, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, MP for Dome Kwabenya which was to have ended on August 31. The Minster sought leave of absence for personal reasons”.
“In her absence and until further notice, President Akufo Addo has directed the Minister of Sanitation and water resources, Cecelia Abena Dapaah to act as caretaker Minster for the Children and Social Protection,” the statement said.
Dome Kwabenya MP dragged before Privileges Committee of Parliament for absenteeism
She was subsequent dragged before the Parliament Privileges Committee together with the Members of Parliament for Assin Central and Ayawaso Central, Kennedy Agyepong and Henry Quatey respective.
She is however, yet to appear before the committee.
