The Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr John Kumah has said the Black Stars of Ghana making it to the World Cup 2022 in Qatar is an indication government is on the right path to deliver the best for the country.
According to him, despite the challenges, government played it part to make sure football in the country was placed in a better position, the result we are seeing with the Black Star’s qualification.
Mr John Kumah who also doubles as the Member of Parliament for the Ejisu Constituency made the comment in an interview with TV3 in Parliament on Wednesday, March 30.
He was reacting to the State of the Nation’s Address presented by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo -Addo to Parliament and monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
“…. the President acknowledges the global challenges which he mention. The difficult economic situation is not a Ghana issue, is a globally difficult situation that Europe is complaining, America is complaining, Africa is complaining and Ghana we are part of it. The good news is that we have a president and an economic team that understands the issues. We have measures in place to help to address some of these challenges. One of the key challenges we are facing today is the cost of fuel which has come about because of the war between Ukraine and Russia and yet government have come just last week to talk to stakeholders, take off some of the margins and now we beginning to see gradual reduction in the prices so government acknowledges the difficult economic situations but we are taking pragmatic steps and that is what leadership is all about”.
“As we speak, there is hope and confidence in the country. I mean the fact that Ghana has in this all doubtful circumstances made it the world cup shows that indeed we are on the right path, irrespective, of the challenges that we are on, we are going to make it as a country,” Mr John Kumah said in the interview monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
Ghana World Cup qualifying – Be happy Gov’t has delivered that one – John Kumah
He noted Ghana qualifying for the World Cup despite the challenges is good news as far as the state of the nation is concerned and urged Ghanaians to be happy adding government has delivered that one.
Mr John Kumah added all though all the problems of the country have not been addressed, government is on the right path to address them and assured Ghanaian the country will make it out of the challenges.
“So if the players fail to qualify for the World Cup, it will be government but if they qualify, it is the players, is that what the point you are making?. Government has played it role to making sure that football is well position to put Ghana on the world map. The whole world is going to meet at Qatar and Ghana will be present. That is good news for the country if you want to talk about the state of the nation,” John Kumah said when asked if that was not the effort of the players.
“The ordinary person is also a football fun and one of the things that he looks up to is to see his Black Stars at the Qatar and am saying that government have deliver that one and so we must be happy, we haven’t solve all the problems of the country but on a good path to deliver the best for this country,” he added.
