Investigate Ejura upheaval in 10 days – Akufo orders Interior Minister

The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo –Addo has instructed the Minister of Interior, Mr Ambrose Dery to conduct a public inquiry into circumstances which led to the unfortunate incidents at Ejura on Tuesday, June 29 and that also in 10days.

The instructions were contained in a statement sighted by GhanaPlus.com and signed by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin.

 “The President of the republic has instructed the Minister of Interior, Hon Ambrose Dery MP, to conduct a forthwith, a public inquiry into the circumstances which led to the unfortunate occurrences of Tuesday, June 29,” the statement reads.

“The Interior Minister is to provide a detailed report from the Inquiry, with recommendations for appropriate action, within ten days, ie by 9th July 2021, to President Akufo-Addo,” it added.

Ejura, a community in the Ashanti Region turned bloody on Tuesday, June 29, when military personnel opened fire on unarmed demonstrators who were demanding justice for the murdered social activist and member of the community, Kaaka Anyass Ibrahim,

Mr Ibrahim popularly called Kaaka, a member of the #FixTheCountry movement and the Economic Fighters League died at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on Monday, June 28 after he was mob attacked on Friday, June 25 at Ejura.

The protest organized by resident of Dagombaline line, a suburb of Ejura, demanding justice for his untimely dead, however, turned bloody, leaving two persons and four others with various degrees of injuries.

Akufo-Addo send condolence to bereaved families in Kaaka’s murder case

According to the statement, the President was sudden by the death of the three and extends his sincere condolence to the bereaved families.

The President also wished the injured a speedy recovery.

 “The President is deeply saddened by the deaths of Ibrahim Mohammed, alias ‘Kaaka’, Abdul Nasir Yussif and Murtala Mohammed. He extends sincere condolences to the families of the deceased, and wishes the injured a speedy recovery,” the statement said.
