The Savanna Regional Communication’s Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Malik Basintale has descended heavily on the Minister of Finance Mr Ken Ofori-Atta following his pay role is full, venture into entrepreneurship comment.
According to him, the Finance Minister should call all the Ofori Atta’s in the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo’s government and advice them to do into entrepreneurship.
Similarly, he should call the President’s daughter, Gyankroma, the two sons of the Senior Presidential Advisor and former Senior Minister, Mr Yaw Osafo Marfo and others, currently serving in various governmental position to forfeit their public sector jobs.
That, he said would make way for fresh graduates to occupy in the sector.
Mr Basintale was speaking on TV3 NewDay on Tuesday, October 19, monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
He made the comment while contributing to discussions about comments made by the Minister of Finance at the graduation ceremony of the University of Professional Studies(UPSA) in Accra.
Pay role is full- Ofori-Atta
Mr. Ken ofori-Atta while addressing the graduation ceremony admonished the grandaunts to consider entrepreneurship to help curb the growing employment in the country .
He said currently, the country spent 60% of it finances on payment of public sector worker alone, making it difficult to employ more.
“That payroll is full because we are spending some 60% of our revenue on remunerating some 650,000 people. That is not sustainable.”
“…You have the skills set to be able to do what you have to do. Our responsibility as a government is to create the environment and the macro stability, currency stability and ensure that you have access to the relevant skills and financing,” Mr Ofori-Atta said.
NDC’s Basintale on Pay roll is full
However, reacting to the comment, Mr Basintale described it as unfair to Ghanaian graduates and urge him to advice his family and friends in the government to take up entrepreneurship and make way for others.
“Simply he should go gather Eno Ofori-Atta, he should call Nana Freedua Ofori- Atta, she should call Akosua Newman, he should call William Ofori-Atta, he should call the two sons of the former Senior Advisor who have been appointed Deputy CEOs , he should summon Akufo-Addo’s daughter Gyankroma, he should bring them to the table and then tell them to forfeit their public sector job that they are enjoying now and go into entrepreneurship so that we can get space for fresh graduate”.
“Clearly these are people that have choked public sector, the presidency is filled with family and friends and annually more than 283Million is pushed into the presidency. Public sector is choked with people of government, family and friends who have duplicate themselves in family lines and they have been given opportunity and the tax payers money is being use to pay them. Then you come and tell us that public sector is now choked people should now go into entrepreneurship,” Mr Basintale bemoan.
