Ursula Declared Winner

Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ablekuma West Constituency, Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has overwhelmingly been elected to lead the constituency into the 2024 parliamentary elections.

The incumbent MP succeeded in humiliating her major contender, Roni Nicol again who secured only 241 votes at the end of voting.

Honorable Ursula Owusu-Ekuful secured 817 votes out of the total votes of 1078. There were 20 rejected votes.

This is not the first time the two went on a contest. It would be recalled that, in 2016, Roni Nicol contested and was defeated hugely in that battle.

Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu, in that election won the candidature of the New Patriotic Party to represent the constituency, polling 554 votes as Roni Nicol who garnered 317 votes.

It came to many as a surprise to see that the votes Roni Nicol gathered in the 2016 primaries was even higher than what he secured in this primary.

Meanwhile ahead of election, the contender Roni Nicol claimed that Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful’s supporters were camping some delegates and denying others access to the accreditation process.

However, the Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Nii Lai Parker in an interview denied all the clams by stating that, “Yesterday [Friday], for instance, I met all the aspirants. I met the constituency executives and I gave them a warning that there should be no camping. If you are making big allegations like this, I am expecting that you support your allegations with evidence. If someone is talking about camping, the question is, where are they being camped,”.

Mr. Parker explained that under the party’s rules, certain officials are permitted to observe the primary elections and cannot be barred from doing so.

According to him, there was never any discussion about preventing party officials from observing the primary.

“That is why you will see some former officers coming to observe. So he has no case at all. He is talking about Christian home that people are being camped in. Christian home is our meeting grounds. That is where we do meet. There is no camping in Ablekuma West. I met all of them yesterday [Friday] and I gave a strong signal even to the Minister of Communication that I will not entertain any camping, so these are serious fabrications.”

This victory is not just mine, but ours – a testament to our shared vision and dedication as a political party. Thank you for believing in me and our collective journey towards BREAKING THE 8.
