Ejisu queen Yaa Asantewaa under-celebrated; make YAGSHS an all-female University
Entertainment Pundit Nana Frimpong Ziega has stated emphatically that the late Queen Mother for Ejisu Nana Yaa Asantewaa I who led men to war against the British has not been celebrated well in the Asante Kingdom as well as Ghana as naming a secondary school after her inadequate.
In 1900 Nana Yaa Asantewaa led the Ashanti war known as the War of the Golden Stool, also known as the Yaa Asantewaa War, against British colonialism.
The Entertainment Pundit Nana Frimpong Ziega speaking on Angel Entertainment show on Kumasi based Angel Fm hosted by Ike De Unpredictable monitored by MyNewsGh.com said Late Ejisu Queen Mother Nana Yaa Asantewaa I fought hard to save the Asante Kingdom and she deserves to be celebrated well in the Asante Kingdom.
According to Nana Frimpong Ziega, Yaa Asantewaa Senior High School should be elevated to University status to celebrate Nana Yaa Asantewaa I.
“When you read the history about Nana Yaa Asantewaa I and you compare to how she has been celebrated in Asante Kingdom, it clearly shows that how we celebrate her is on the low key” Ziega explained.
“Nana Yaa Asantewaa fought hard to save the Golden Stool which is the heart of Asante Kingdom. When the Whites came to Asante Kingdom to take away the Golden Stool even men were afraid to fight for it but she stood up to fight and protect the Golden Stool”.
He added, “there should be a big statue of Nana Yaa Asantewaa I in Asanteman to celebrate her achievement for Asanteman”.
“Yaa Asantewaa Senior High School alone is not enough to celebrate her. There should be an elevation of Yaa Asantewaa Senior High School to a University status for even only girls. She deserves more than what we are doing”. He argued.
