I deserve to be awarded songwriter of the year
Songwriter, Kuami Eugene born Eugene Kwame Marfo has said that it would not be out of place if he is crowned Songwriter of the Year in the next Vodafone Ghana Music Awards(VGMA).
Kuami Eugene has been credited with several songs he wrote for his colleagues, including Adina, Joyce Blessing, and Keche among others.
However, he has not been adjudged songwriter of the year at any of the music award shows in and out of Ghana.
But he believes that he deserves that form of acknowledgement going forward and relishes it would be this year.
He says he believes the algorithm for choosing a songwriter of the year does not favor him because it expects the songwriter to say a lot when he is just a hitmaker.
“I think it’s the algorithm. I think it’s the mindset behind how a songwriter should look and that particular song that makes the person win Songwriter of the Year should sound like. It should sound like you’re saying so much…Look at the songs that won Susuka and I’m more of a hitmaker. It won’t be bad if I win an award. I will be the first artiste to win songwriter of the year, producer of the year, and artiste of the year,” he said on Accra-based TV3.
