PlayGhana: No Nigerian Radio station plays Ghanaian songs for an hour
Ghanaian singer, Kaakyire Kwame Appiah has said that the Play Ghana initiative is a good idea but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t play foreign music at all.
According to the ‘Di Me Bronya’ crooner, whilst residing in Nigeria, he never heard any radio station playing Ghanaian songs for one hour like we do here in Ghana.
“Play Ghana is a very good idea because I’m not saying DJs play more Nigerian songs than ours but there are DJs who only play Nigerian songs,” he told Amansan Krakye on Cape Coast-based Property FM
“I have spoken about this issue in the past that we can play foreign music not only Nigerian songs but if you play those songs about 10 to 20 per cent it’s okay.
He added “But there are some people who will play Nigerian songs for like 40 to 50 minutes and will only drop a Ghanaian song at the tail end of the program.
“When you go to Nigeria you’ll never hear such things and you’ll never witness a radio station using one hour to play Ghanaian music and I’ve been there before”.
