The former National Chairman of the Peoples National Convention (PNC),Bernard Mornah has asked organizers of Afrochella Music Festival to reach out properly to the family of the young lady who lost her life after sustaining injuries in the gas explosion recorded at last year’s event.
Failure to do so, he warned, they will have him to contend with.
Mr Mornah sent the warning while speaking on TV3 NewDay on Tuesday, January 17, monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
According to him, he is troubled by the attitude of the organizers towards Mariama’s family adding that they took inhumane concern towards the young lady while still on admission at the hospital.
“…….for me, one of our small girls who used to be on internship with TV3, within the 28 and 29 went to work at Afrochella and then there was a gas explosion, she was one of three persons that was affected.
“The organizers took a very inhuman concern for her, she eventually died. They have not even been able to reach out to the family properly. I was called to sit in a family meetings where someone from Tema, Mr Nettey came in to want to talk for the organizers and I just said that was not possible and despite the fact that we have lost that young girl, Mimi, I want to assure the organizers that they must do what is humanly possible to reach out to the family”.
“Am not sure the family is out there wishing and hoping that they can cash out on anything but showing compassion, showing concern even as they fail to do so when the lady was hospitalized will suit their pain, failure to do that they will have me to contend with,” Mr Mornah warned.
“I am very disrupted by their attitude towards the family. And as I met the family and we have discussions, you can see their pain is even away from the death of their daughter but the attitude of the organizers and they must know that human life is not replaceable”.
Afrochella confirms girl’s death from last year’s event fire
Mariama, affectionately called Mimi by loved ones suffered injuries in the gas explosion recorded at last year’s Afrochella together with two others.
She was reported dead some four days ago by the organizers.
Mimi, a formal intern at Media General’s TV3 was said to have been hired by a vendor to work at the festival aimed at celebrating Africa’s diverse culture, vibrant work and creatives, entrepreneurs , art, cuisine, music, and food but met the unfortunate accident which cut her young life short and also untimely.
