Bulgaria-based striker Bernard Tekpetey opens up on his exclusion from current Black Stars squad for 2023 AFCON qualifiers despite fine form

Ghana forward Bernard Tekpetey has opened up on his exclusion from the Black Stars squad for the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers despite his fine form.

The enterprising attacker enjoyed an amazing campaign with Ludogorets in the Bulgarian top-flight.

The former Schalke 04 forward played an instrumental role as Ludogorets clinched the league title.

He scored 10 goals and provided 12 assists in all competition for his outfit.

Despite his fine form, he did not get a place in Otto Addo list for the AFCON qualifiers and the Kirin Cup in Japan next month.

In an interview with Kumasi-based Angel FM, Tekpetey affirmed he deserved to be in the current Black Stars team considering his performance.

“I should have been in this current Black Stars team because of my performance but God’s time is the best”

Meanwhile, he has disclosed the Bulgarian Football Federation has been on his neck to switch nationality but declined due to the love he has for Ghana.

“Ludogorets officials made an attempt to convince me to play for the Bulgarian national team but I declined that opportunity because I love my country” he said.

Tekpetey has capped twice for Ghana since his debut in 2017.
