Disappointment from failing to qualify for 2022 FIFA WC is now behind us, says Nigeria defender Leon Balogun
Nigeria defender, Leon Balogun has disclosed that the Super Eagles are now over the disappointment felt from the inability to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Drawn against rivals Ghana in the playoff round of the qualifiers for the world cup, the Super Eagles lost to the Black Stars courtesy of the aggregate rule.
Speaking to the press ahead of Nigeria’s game against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone on Thursday, Leon Balogun says that disappointment from the Ghana game is behind the team.
“That’s behind us now. I played for my club (Rangers) four days after the game against Ghana, so it’s football. It goes on. There is no time to feel sorry for yourself,” the centre-back told reporters.
Leon Balogun continued, “Obviously it hurts, but you have to move on. Like they say, time heals old wound. You have to move on because the next match is always around the corner.”
The game between Nigeria and Sierra Leone will kick off at 16:00GMT.
