Ex-Horoya AC star Enoch Attah Agyei provides roadmap to making Ghana Premier League attractive

Ghanaian international Enoch Attah Agyei has shared how the domestic top-flight can be attractive in order to ward of player exodus.

The mass exodus of players in the domestic top-flight league has affected the standard of the Ghana Premier League and also the performance of Ghanaian teams in Africa.

Most players who turn out to perform well join other clubs on the continent or move to Europe for greener pastures.

In an interview with Sylvester Ntim of Koforidua-based Bryt FM, Attah Agyei, who featured for Medeama before departing for greener pastures expressed worry about salary of players and the rampant departure of local players from the league to abroad.

According to him, the narrative will change when players are paid well in the country.

“I believe players will be willing to stay in the league with better salaries. I have played in the Ghana Premier League and I realized players are not paid well. I have played in Tanzania and Guinea, so I know the salary structure in Ghana and in those countries”

“Foreign players in Tanzania and Guinea receive close to GHC30,000. If Ghana Premier League clubs cannot pay such amount, they should at least improve it. It is not bad for a local player to receive about GHC3,000. If they able to do that I believe the players will stay and the attractiveness and competitiveness of the league will come back”
