EXCLUSIVE: Uruguay to forego farewell match at Centenario Stadium before heading to Qatar for World Cup
Ghana’s opponent in the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Uruguay will not be able to play a farewell match at the Centenario Stadium before travelling to Qatar for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Prior to the last three world cups in 2010, 2014, and 2018, the celestial always played a farewell match at the iconic national stadium before proceeding to the host country.
Due to time constraints, Uruguay would this year forego the farewell match which had become something of a tradition for the national team.
However, in the months leading to the world cup, Uruguay will play five friendly matches before heading to Qatar.
Sources have confirmed that there is a scheduled match against Mexico, the USA, as well as an African side.
At the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Uruguay are in Group H with Ghana alongside Portugal and South Korea.
The first match of the Celestial will be against South Korea on November 24.
